Black Pepper – The King of Spices
Black pepper is one of the most usable ingredients in Indian cuisine. As per ancient documents, these pepper is present in Indian kitchen since 2000 BC.
The origin of the black pepper is Kerala, India. Kerala is one of the southern state of India and very well known for its own cuisine style. The city called Muziris (This city has been lost) in Kerala was noted as a main port for exporting Black Pepper. In middle ages Black pepper was being used as the commodities to pay wages, taxes and other transactions.
There are two main reasons for pepper being universal esteem:
- it adds taste to bland food
- It doesn’t need any preservation.
What to Buy :
It is recommended to buy whole peppercorns than buying a powdered or crushed pepper. This will make sure that peppercorn you bough will stay good for long time and enhance the flavor of the food when you crush fresh pepper on the food.
How to Store:
To store pepper use airtight glass container. Store it in a cool, dry and dark place.
